Kaathal _ The Core directed by Jeo Baby released at the cinemas on November 23 and garnered positive reviews. The film was highly appreciated for its theme and acting performances. Now, Kaathal – The Core has started streaming on the OTT platform Amazon Prime from January 5. The film had been banned in two Middle Eastern countries, Qatar and Kuwait, reportedly due to its content. Kaathal – The Core revolves around the life of Mathew (Mammootty Devassy), a retired bank secretary. He reluctantly files his nomination papers for a by-election.
Mathew faces the biggest hurdle of life when his wife Omana (Jyothika) files for divorce. Omana blames Mathew’s homosexuality for the divorce. Besides Mammootty and Jyothika, Anagha Akku, Alex Alister, Josey Sijo, and others have also acted in Kaathal – The Core. Mammootty Kampany and Wayfarer Films have produced this film.
Mammootty has gained praiseworthy reviews for his selection of a film like Kaathal – The Core. Cinemagoers have appreciated how a star like Mammootty has put his stardom to good use by talking about a pivotal issue. Jyothika, who essays the female lead in this film, also appreciated Mammootty in the Film Companion Actors Adda. She said," “On the first day, I went to him and asked how he chose to play this role. He responded by asking, ‘What is a hero? A hero is not someone who hits somebody or does action and romance. A hero is someone who tries different roles and gets into the act of different characters. That’s a real hero.’ Jothika said that she wanted to appreciate Mammootty because had a lot to lose if his choice didn’t go right. Jyothika felt that he just went all out.
Mammootty currently has many films lined up on the professional front. He will essay the role of political leader YS Rajasekhar Reddy in Yatra 2. The teaser of this film was unveiled on January 5, 2024.
Mahi V Raghav has written and directed this film which will release on February 8, 2024.
