Apple users in India have got a new security warning from the nodal security agency of the Indian government this week. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued the alert with a high severity rating, dated August 2, 2024. The security issue is really big because it affects major parts of Apple devices, including iPhones, iPad and Macs.
CERT-In Apple Security Warning – What It Says
As noted by CERT-In, multiple security vulnerabilities have been reported in Apple products which could allow an attacker to access sensitive information, execute arbitrary code, bypass security restrictions, cause denial of service (DoS) and perform spoofing on the targeted system. The CERT-In directive tells Apple users to head over the support page on Apple website and check for these issues in detail.
Apple Security Issue: Devices Affected
– Apple Safari versions prior to 17.6
– Apple macOS Ventura versions prior to 13.6.8
– Apple macOS Sonoma versions prior to 14.6
– Apple visionOS versions prior to 1.3
– Apple iOS and iPadOS versions prior to 17.6
– Apple iOS and iPadOS versions prior to 16.7.9
The Apple software versions affected by the security issue includes the latest devices like the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and even the Vision Pro headset. You also have a range of iPad and iPad Pro models mentioned within the list with their respective software versions. Older iPhone models like 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X users also need to be aware of the vulnerability.
Apple Security Issue: What Should You Do
Apple has already offered fixes and patches for the security issues and CERT-In tells these users to check and install these updates for the iPhones, Macs, iPads or even the Safari browser right away. You can do that by going to Settings on the device – go to software update – and install the latest versions of the iOS, iPadOS or macOS versions.
