Only two companies have apps with over 1 billion Google Play Store downloads, which includes Google itself and now Facebook.

New Delhi: When introduced as a separate app, there were frowns on the face of loyalists who had to download it as a separate app. Today, the Facebook Messenger has joined the elite club of having one billion downloads on Android devices.

By far, only two companies have apps with over 1 billion Google Play Store downloads. Other than Facebook, it is Google to be part of the club.

A TechCrunch report notes that Messenger now joins Facebook, WhatsApp, Gmail, YouTube, Search, and Maps in the very exclusive club.

Facebook inserted Messenger with VOIP, video calling, stickers, voice clips, peer-to-peer payments and much to make it a product in itself and keep its over 600 million users stay engaged with the service.
