Google has announced the launch of its experimental Delhi Public Transport Offline app to make it easier for Delhiites to access public transport.
The app is built into Google Maps and Google says it can let users access transit direction even on slow connections.
Direction and time table information for Delhi Metro and buses will also be available offline on the app.
Google says the app is designed for slow Internet speeds and low data plans. "Once the app is downloaded, it uses no data for directions’ queries or timetables, even if the phone is online. A small amount of data is used for news alerts (if online, roughly 1 KB each, about once a day) and user-optional feedback (up to 100 KB per feedback report)," the tech giant said in a press release.
The Delhi Transport app weighs 1 MB in size is available for Android users from the Google Play store. The app is compatible with Android versions 3.0 and above.
The app uses transit data for Delhi Metro, DTC buses, DIMTS (Orange) buses, and Gurgaon Rapid Metro that are found on Google Maps.
Features on the app are expected to change given that it is still in an experimental stage.
