Google Play Movies and TV To Shut Down In January, But You Can Still Access Your Purchased Content
Google says that the time for Google Play Movies and TV is over, and that it will be removing the app from Google Play and TV devices.

It appears that Google is bidding the final bye to the Google Play Movies and TV app. The company has already begun the process of removing the app from various platforms, and it has already migrated Android and iOS users to the Google TV app. The app is also being removed from platforms such as Roku and smart TVs.

For those uninitiated, Google decided to make Android TV the default in 2022, where you can rent, watch, and buy movies and TV shows. And now, in a new blog post, Google says that the time for Google Play Movies and TV is over, and that it will be removing the app from Google Play and TV devices. But this doesn’t mean that you will lose access to the content you may have purchased while the service was active.

How To Access Your Purchased Content?

The search giant has listed a clear-cut way to access your purchased content. If you use Android TV or streaming devices running Android TV, you can access your purchases in the ‘Your Library’ row on the Shop Tab.

And if you are simply using a web browser, or if you are using a set-top box powered by Android TV, you can access your purchased content on YouTube.

That said, this is Google’s way to consolidate its entertainment apps and will likely make things simpler and easier to understand in the long term. Apple, too, has made its TV app in a way where you can access Apple TV Plus and, at the same time, rent and buy TV shows and movies.

What's your reaction?
