Samsung is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that its upcoming feature smartphone does not leave out on any technology which its rivals have already incorporated.
Amongst the speculations about the phone, one major update that Samsung is going to embed into the smartphone is a smart-Assistant named Bixby.
In a recent statement released by Samsung, it explains how the smart-assistant works and how it will be different from the existing voice assistance technology.
Samsung stresses that with the existing technology, humans have to indulge in complicated interfaces to access the various functions embedded into a device, be it a smartphone, PC or an IoT device.
In the process, many functions of the device are left unexplored and this limits the current human-to-machine interface.
Samsung plans to change this with Bixby, as it aims at a different approach altogether.
Instead of the humans learning how the machine interacts with the world, Samsung wants the machine to learn and adapt to the user.
Samsung has based its latest Artificial Intelligence technology upon three concepts:1. Completeness
When an application becomes Bixby-enabled, Bixby will be able to support almost every task that the application is capable of performing using the conventional interface (ie. touch commands).
The completeness property of Bixby will simplify user education on the capability of the agent, making the behaviours of the agent much more predictable.2. Context Awareness
When using a Bixby-enabled application, users will be able to call upon Bixby at any time and it will understand the current context and state of the application and will allow users to carry out the current work-in-progress continuously.

When the number of supported voice commands gets larger, most users are cognitively challenged to remember the exact form of the voice commands.
Most agents require users to state the exact commands in a set of fixed forms. Samsung claims Bixby to be smart enough to understand commands with incomplete information and execute the commanded task to the best of its knowledge and then prompt users to provide more information and take the execution of the task in piecemeal.
This makes the interface much more natural and easier to use.
Samsung confirms that the Galaxy S8 will come with a dedicated Bixby button located on the side of the device. This will allow users to skip through multiple steps of simple tasks like making a phone call.
The release also states that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with preinstalled applications which will be Bixby-enabled and that this set will continue to expand over time.
Samsung eventually plans to release a tool (in SDK) to enable third-party developers to make their applications and services Bixby-enabled.
There are also plans to bring Bixby to other Internet-enabled appliances such as smart TVs and air conditioners.
