New Delhi: Not even a week has passed since Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 Edge+ to the world, and the South Korean giant has now announced the launch of the phone in India. The phone, that has been priced at Rs 57,900 in India, will be available across the country in two colours - Gold and Silver.
The company has introduced only the 32 GB variant of the curved S6 Edge+ in India. It will be available in the country from August 28.
The screen on Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge+ is curved on both sides. The feature proved popular in the S6 Edge, which used one of those sides for quick access to friends and other frequent contacts. Now, you can use it for quick access to favourite apps, too. There won't be a stylus, though.
The new phone also borrows design elements from the S6. It sports an aluminum frame and a glass back rather than plastic. It doesn't feel as boxy as the regular S6.
The phone with a dual-edge screen is powered by Samsung's Exynos chips, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters. Samsung dropped Qualcomm chips that powered most of its previous handsets. It will come with 4GB of RAM.
The S6 Edge+ features a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED (2560 x 1440) display, runs Android 5.1, sports a 16 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera, and includes a 3000 mAh battery with wireless charging capability.
The new S6 Edge+ incorporates the improved camera technology. Added is live streaming of video you're capturing, a practice made popular by Meerkat and Twitter's Periscope apps. Samsung's video will appear on YouTube. The front camera takes sharper selfies, at 5 megapixels rather than 3.7.
Samsung is the world's top smartphone maker but its market share fell in the second quarter when its critically acclaimed S6 models launched, squeezed by Apple's iPhones and price-competitive offerings from Chinese rivals such as Huawei Technologies.
