New Delhi: Samsung has rolled out a new app, called Flow, that makes switching between devices easier while you are at a task.
A challenger to Apple’s Continuity feature, Flow lets you transfer specific activity to a device where you want to resume it.
A report on The Verge notes that while Samsung Flow doesn’t auto-transfer all tasks like Apple’s tool, it is nonetheless preferable to actually choose which activity you want to transfer.
Developed by the Think Tank Team, the app’s description on Google Play Store says that Flow allows you to transfer an activity to the right device for a task and you can pick up exactly where you left instead of starting from the scratch.
It also allows you to defer an activity. For example, if the chosen device is not immediately at hand, or you want to go back to the task at a later point, you can choose to do so and resume when you are ready.
Once you set up Flow on your group of Samsung devices, it is activated through either the Android share button or in some apps it will show as a dedicated Flow button. Developers who want to specifically support it can allow activities to resume in specific ways, for example a video chat where you could easily switch over to another device without interruption.
Limited to the US, Flow is currently available as a public beta for the latest Samsung Android devices, including Galaxy S5, S6, and S6 Edge, Galaxy Alpha, Note 4 and Note Edge, and Galaxy Tab S.
More features likely to make it to the app in future include the ability to synchronize notifications and mirror apps along with an option to make it work on the desktop as well.
