UMANG: This Master App Will Provide Access to All Major Government Services
The UMANG app will be available in 12 Indian languages, in addition to English.

New Delhi: With an aim to integrate major central and state government services, the Narendra Modi government is working towards building a master app.

The app will be called Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG), says the proposal paper issued by the Department of Electronics & Information Technology, which seeks to invite a potential agency to create and maintain the app.

The agency which will be hired to build the app "would be responsible for development, implementation, enhancement, operations, and maintenance of the UMANG platform for a period of 3 years with a possibility of extension to another 2 years and again for 2 years subject to mutually agreed terms and conditions," details the proposal paper.

Through the UMANG app, citizens will be able to access pan-India e-government services from the central government, state governments, local bodies and their agencies.

UMANG will be accessible to citizens through mobile app, web, and mobile channels such as IVR and SMS.

The app will be available in 12 Indian languages, in addition to English. It will also provide support for voice interaction in local languages.

The UMANG app, as the government claims, will securely store citizens' personal details, preferences and other data required to access services so that users don't have to re-enter those details every time they access the services.

The government says it will enable Aadhaar-based authentication on the UMANG platform. And for non-Aadhaar based authentication, the UMANG platform will integrate with other identity providers such as PAN under Income Tax Department.

The app will be available for Android, iOS, and Windows.
