New Delhi: WhatsApp has rolled out an update to its Android app that lets you backup your conversations to Google Drive, a feature that had been long requested by users.

While there already had been an offline conversation backup option, the online backup feature is more convenient. It is available in the latest version of the app, v2.12.45 for Android and can be downloaded through the company's official website.

All you need to do is update to the latest version and choose the option to take a backup to Google Drive in the chat settings tab. Now you simply need to sync your Gmail account to which you want to store your chat history to and viola! all your conversations will then show up in Google Drive whenever you take a backup.

However, the update is not available on the app's iOS version or Windows Phone clients yet. The update hasn't been listed even on Google Play Store, a Beta News report notes.

Recently, the messaging service introducing voice calling feature to its Android app, allowing users to place voice calls to their contacts over the Internet. Last week it also tweaked its graphics for the Android version, embracing the Metal Design language.

The update comes in line with the company CEO Jan Koum's announcement that WhatsApp now has 800 million monthly active users, pushing other social services like Instagram and Twitter behind.
