2 Decades After 9/11, Never-Seen-Before Footage Shows How Twin Towers Came Under Attack
Sugimento claimed to have studied online and discovered that even in the best of storage environments, video cassettes might deteriorate with time.

The Pentagon and World Trade Centre reported a terrorist attack during the early hours of September 11, 2001. The event is still remembered as the worst act of terrorism in the history of the USA. Three planes crashed into the three buildings, one after the other, killing almost 3,000 people.

Live footage of the second plane crash, which occurred soon after the first plane struck the Twin Towers, was captured by several TV stations and by public viewers. Nearly 23 years have passed since then, and viewers claim that a man, Kei Sugimoto, posted a video of the incident on YouTube from an “unseen angle."

He uploaded the footage and added in the description, “Footage I filmed of the World Trade Centre collapsing on 9/11/2001. Filmed from the roof of 64 St Marks Place in NYC on a Sony VX2000 with a teleconverter."

Sugimoto stated why he waited 22 years to publish the clip. He claimed to have discovered crates full of Hi-8, Digital-8 and DV cassettes while organising the closet. He discovered that about a third of them had demagnetised over the years and were either blank or had significant data distortion when he attempted to play them again.

Sugimento claimed to have studied online and discovered that even in the best of storage environments, video cassettes might deteriorate with time. And then he began the process of digitising them. “Thus I’m just uploading the video now."

A user commented, “Wow, crazy this was released almost 23 years later! Makes you wonder how many other unreleased videos there are! Thanks for sharing this!"

Another user said, “That footage was WOW. I got shivers. It was such a sad day, and I was only a kid when it happened."

“Crazy how there’s probably more “new" unseen footage out there in someone’s storage or attic," read another comment.

The then US President George W Bush was notified by the Central Intelligence Agency that Al-Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden, was responsible for the attacks, according to the Counterterrorism Center’s analysis.

Al-Qaeda claimed that sanctions on Iraq, US military outposts in Saudi Arabia and US backing for Israel as reasons for their actions.
