Capitalmind CEO Pokes Fun At Amazon's Foldable Home: 'Would Retail In Mumbai For Rs 5 Crore'
Amazon Foldable Homes: 5 Crore Foldable Homes in Mumbai? Capitalmind CEO Imagines the Possibilities.

E-commerce giant Amazon offers doorstep delivery of a variety of products ranging from apparels and books to electronic gadgets. However, it has now ventured into delivering an entire house. Yes, you read it right. Amazon recently delivered a foldable house worth $26,000 (Rs 21.3 lakh) to a TikTok user in Los Angeles, United States. The 23-year-old TikToker, Jeffrey Bryant, shared a video on the social media platform and toured his brand-new, claiming that it was delivered by the e-commerce giant. In the clip, he said, “I just bought a house on Amazon. I didn’t even think twice about it.”

The unique offering by Amazon quite naturally garnered the internet’s attention. While some were blown away with the idea of purchasing a new-age home, others termed it to be a waste of money. Among the commenters was Capitalmind CEO Deepak Shenoy who explained what would happen if these houses were sold in Mumbai. Needless to say, India’s financial capital Mumbai is popular for its high real estate prices.

Taking to his handle on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Shenoy shared the TikToker’s video and wrote in the caption, ”This would retail in Mumbai for at least 5 crores each and you still won’t be allowed to cook non-veg in them.”

The Capitalmind CEO’s humourous take on the matter attracted several remarks from social media users. Notably, Mumbai is known to house migrants from all across the country who relocate to the city for work, study or business, leading to a high demand in the housing sector.

An individual said, “The same house will cost not more than 8K USD in India. (500 sqft× 1500 unit per sqft) Cost is of the land where you will put this construction.” Another person asked, “Where would one get the land to base these houses?”

One of the comments also read, “Nah much more. U first need land to place it. Show me that first. Maybe 5 crores if you can have it stacked to 10 levels.”

As per a report by Metro, the house is a fold-out flat measuring 16.5ft by 20ft. The compact unit has a built-in shower and toilet, a kitchenette, a living area, and a bedroom.
