Music icon Celine Dion, in her new documentary, recalled how she had a ten-minute painful seizure. The singer urged that the video be included in the documentary, which chronicles her struggle with stiff person syndrome (SPS). In 2022, Dion disclosed that she was diagnosed with SPS, an uncommon neurological condition characterised by uncontrollable spasms and inflexible muscles. A recent biographical documentary offers a close-up view of the singer’s impact from the illness.
The video, which is from the I Am: Celine Dion documentary on Prime Video, depicts the singer going through instances of excruciating pain. The 56-year-old musician is rendered immobile for a few minutes following the full-body seizure.
In the video, viewers see Dion recording a new song before she has a physical therapy session. The My Heart Will Go On singer is seen laying on a massage table, her body continuing to spasm violently.
Healthcare professionals respond to the singer as she writhes and screams in agony, giving her soothing back massages and a nasal spray meant to ease the symptoms of cluster seizures.
Upon regaining her motor capabilities, the singer confides in her group that she is “so embarrassed” by such occurrences.

Dion has been upfront with her fans about how her SPS diagnosis has impacted her life and work ever since she revealed it, and she has been incredibly appreciative of their support at every turn. Before the documentary’s debut earlier this month, Dion spoke candidly about her health in an interview with Today, sharing the difficulties she’s had since receiving her diagnosis.
The singer revealed that SPS originally manifested itself in her neck, locking up the muscles and making it feel “like somebody is strangling you” each time she attempted to sing. Dion notes that the condition has also resulted in spasms in her limbs, spine, ribs and belly.
It can also cause her limbs to lock in specific postures, like while she’s pointing her toes or cooking. The singer has occasionally experienced such severe spasms that it cracked her ribs.
