No words are enough to describe some men’s love for sports. And when such a person hails from India or Pakistan, his knowledge of cricket happens to be unparalleled. Kumail Nanjiani now recognises himself as a member of the league. The Pakistan-born stand-up comedian-cum-actor was recently captured elucidating the basics of cricket to his American wife Emily V. Gordon. Despite pursuing his career far away from his homeland, Nanjiani remains an ardent follower of the Pakistani cricket team.
The video was secretly recorded by none other than Gordon when Nanjiani was watching the fifth T20I match between New Zealand and Pakistan on television. In the 22-second-long clip, Nanjiani could be seen giving some lessons about the game of cricket to his spouse.
This is the full video of Emily secretly taping me while I tried to teach her cricket. (Don’t worry. It’s only 22 seconds long.) pic.twitter.com/uvyN3vZhas— Kumail Nanjiani (@kumailn) January 22, 2024
As the match had already entered the second innings, New Zealand was on the course of chasing a target of 135 runs. As the scoreboard suggested, the Black Caps were batting at 74 runs with only two wickets in hand. Nanjiani was seen explaining to Gordon how many runs New Zealand needed to score at that point to win the match.
As soon as an advertisement began during a break between overs, Nanjiani turned back to his wife and found her quietly recording the video. He shared the clip on X (formerly Twitter), with a caption reading, “This is the full video of Emily secretly taping me while I tried to teach her cricket.”
The X post by Kumail Nanjiani was able to create a buzz among his followers. Since being dropped on the microblogging site, the adorable banter has received over 2,89,000 views while garnering more than 4,000 likes.
A user joked about Nanjiani’s antics and commented, “I could learn cricket this way. Lots of enthusiasm and pointing.”

Another found the video “super cute.”

“I told my husband to explain it like he was talking to a 4-year-old. Now I love cricket and get very excited about all the drama,” shared a woman, who hardly had any idea about cricket earlier just like Emily V. Gordon.

It certainly turned out to be a joyous moment for Kumail Nanjiani as Pakistan ultimately won the fifth T20I against New Zealand by 42 runs. However, it was nothing but a consolation for the Asian giants, who lost all the previous four games of the five-match series.
