Days after the assassination of Yahya Sinwar, former Hamas chief, Israeli authorities released footage of his wife carrying a Hermès Birkin bag. Samar Muhammad Abu Zamar reportedly carried the luxury bag, estimated to be worth $32,000 (around Rs 26.9 lakh) in a Gaza tunnel. The Israeli authorities compared the lifestyle of Sinwar’s family to the economic challenges faced by the Gazans at large.
Sinwar’s wife caught in this photo sneaking to the tunnels the night before October 7th – get this – clutching a $32,000 Hermes Birkin bag! While Gazans endured hardship under Hamas, Sinwar and his family were shamelessly living in luxury, indulging while sending others to die. pic.twitter.com/Q9fTqhqxo8

The follow-up post from Israeli authorities read, “The bag carried by the wife of former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in recently published footage of the family was a $32,000 Birkin, according to IDF Spokesperson in Arabic, Lt.-Col. Avichay Adraee on Saturday evening.”

However, now, people are accusing the Israeli state of spreading misinformation about the wife of a former Hamas leader. While some questioned the claim, others made fun of the Israeli government for spreading false information.
An X user said, “They are not stupid, they know that’s not a Birkin, but they’re pandering to an audience of evil, delusional beings who are willing to believe anything Israel says so they can continue their support without feelings of guilt bc the ppl they’re murdering somehow deserve it.”

To demonstrate that Hermes bags are always sewn and never made with “metal fixtures on leather to leather connection points,” a user posted images of Birkin and Samar’s bags. According to the user, the purpose of this manufacturing design is to keep the leather joints from wearing out.
Hermes Birkin bags are never manufactured with metal fixtures on leather to leather connection points, they are always stitched. All leather to leather connections are stitched. The only exception is metallic fixtures that clasp together.
