The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) launched the jersey for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup upon which viewers of TMKOC pointed out that the T-shirts resemble those worn by the characters in one episode.

One of the longest-running Indian sitcoms, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), enjoys cult status in many households. First aired in 2008, the family drama has been running successfully for decades. From the fun-filled storyline to the well-curated characters, the serial has struck a chord with viewers. Now, it seems like the TMKOC fandom has also seeped into the Indian cricket team. With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) launching the jersey for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, eagle-eyed social media users spotted a hilarious TMKOC reference.

Team India will appear at the mega event in an Adidas-tailored light blue jersey, featuring orange sleeves and three white stripes. This is the 9th edition of the T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the USA and West Indies from June 1 to June 29. When BCCI made the jersey announcement on May 6, TMKOC viewers were quick to draw parallels between the Team India kit and another similar strip shown in one of TMKOC’s episodes. Many dropped videos and pictures on X (formerly Twitter) with the show’s characters wearing identical jerseys, proving their point. This resulted in a hilarious meme fest on social media, sparking laughter.

Highlighting the uncanny resemblance, a user shared a video stating that Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is even better than The Simpsons at forecasting the future. The Simpsons are famous for making eerily accurate predictions on countless occasions.

Team India also reposted the video on their handles. “One jersey. One Nation. Presenting the new Team India T20 jersey,” read the note accompanying the clip. It showed the jersey being dropped off on the players’ practising field by a toy helicopter.

The tricolour of India will be reflected by a stripe on the jersey’s collar which has impressed fans. The regular size of the jersey costs Rs 5,999, as stated on the official Adidas website.
