At the weekend wedding of Sidhartha Mallya and Jasmine in the UK, the unexpected appearance of fugitive Lalit Modi, former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief, stirred quite a buzz online. Caught in a candid moment by the camera, Modi’s presence at Vijay Mallya’s opulent estate in Hertfordshire added an intriguing twist to the festivities.

Amidst the lavish affair blending Christian and Hindu ceremonies, the sight of Modi and Mallya together sparked a flurry of memes and jests, given their shared legal entanglements. Mallya, facing charges of loan fraud exceeding Rs. 900 crore, and Modi, embroiled in allegations of tax evasion and money laundering, seemed an unlikely duo amidst the celebration.

Meanwhile, other videos from the wedding showed Vijay Mallya affectionately kissing his son and dancing energetically to live music.

For those unaware, Lalit Modi was suspended from the BCCI shortly after the IPL 2010 season. He was accused of misconduct and financial irregularities. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) claimed that, as Chairman of the IPL Governing Council, Modi defrauded the organisation of Rs. 753 crores in collusion with officials from the World Sports Group (WSG).

The celebrations were attended by friends and family of Sidhartha and Jasmine, with the Christian and Hindu ceremonies each having their unique flair. The bride dazzled in an elegant white gown for the Christian wedding and later changed into a stunning pink lehenga for the Hindu ceremony. Guest-shared videos provided glimpses of the joyous festivities, including the couple’s first dance and the cutting of a four-tier wedding cake.

In a playful nod to their happiness, the newlyweds took to Instagram to share two official photos from the wedding, accompanied by the caption, “Mr and Mrs Muppet.”
