A man received a call from a scammer who tried to scam him of Rs 8,999 via UPI in the name of account verification. The man followed all the steps to the tee but as soon as he landed on the page where he had to enter his UPI pin, he figured out that he was being scammed. The scammer did try to convince him by saying that once he entered the PIN, he would receive the money in his bank account. Luckily, the man did not enter his PIN and stopped a Rs 8,999 UPI scam dead in its tracks.
“A new way of scam has been introduced in the market,” reads the caption to the video shared on X (formerly Twitter).

The video captures a tense encounter between a man and a scammer. The scammer, attempting to defraud the man of Rs 8,999, instructs him to initiate a UPI payment of the same amount to receive the sum in his bank account. After the man follows these instructions and taps “pay 8,999,” he is directed to a page requesting his UPI pin. When the man questions the need to enter his UPI pin, the scammer claims it is for account verification and assures him that he will receive the money once he enters it.
When the man expresses concern about the potential debit of the Rs 8,999 instead of receiving it, the scammer brazenly suggests that he could file a complaint. This leads the man to confront the scammer about using a fake 15-digit phone number. Despite the scammer’s attempts to convince the man to enter the UPI pin but in vain.
