Pronounced Dead, 74-year-old Found Breathing At Funeral Home

An elderly woman who was announced as dead at a hospice has reportedly come back to life after being taken to a funeral home. A funeral home employee reportedly noticed the 74-year-old was breathing and performed CPR. She had been declared dead two hours before this incident.

“A doctor had seen her in the last seven days and the doctor is willing to sign the death certificate and that there was nothing suspicious at the time of death – all of that fits,” the sheriff’s chief deputy in Lancaster County, Nebraska, told CNN.

DailyMail also shared an Instagram video in which the sheriff’s office provides information on this incident. “Constance Glantz, 74, was pronounced dead at a hospice and taken to a funeral home in Nebraska,” the newspaper wrote.

“An employee was laying her on the table to prepare her body when he noticed she was still breathing. Staff began CPR on Glantz before she was transported to a local hospital. The sheriff’s office says it has not found any criminal intent on the part of the nursing home, but the investigation is ongoing,” the outlet added.

The post has prompted people to share various comments. One person wrote, “And THAT is why old graves used to have bells next to the headstones that were lowered down to the casket.”

Another added, “What in the world?! In this day and age?”.

“At this point, we have not been able to find any criminal intent on the part of the nursing home, but the investigation is ongoing,” Chief Deputy Ben Houchin told CNN, adding, “I’m sure the nursing home and everyone else will take a look at what happened and I’m sure they will look to see if any new protocols need to be put in place and if they were all followed.

Similar cases were reported in the year 2023. An Iowa nursing home faced thousands of dollars in fines after a 66-year-old woman who had been pronounced dead was found alive and gasping for air at a funeral home. Just days later, a New York City funeral home found an 82-year-old woman alive and breathing shortly after she was pronounced dead at a nursing home.
