Spanish Man, A Big Nokia Fan, Sets Guinness World Record With Over 3,600 Phones In His Collection
Wences Palau Fernandez surpassed the previous record of 3,456 held by Andrei Bilbie Argentis from Romania in 2023.

In a world where most people upgrade their phones every few years, one man’s passion for mobile devices has led to an extraordinary achievement. Wences Palau Fernandez has set a world record for the largest collection of mobile phones, boasting an impressive 3,615 distinct models. Fernandez, who resides in Barcelona, surpassed the previous record of 3,456 held by Andrei Bilbie Argentis from Romania in 2023.

In a video shared by Guinness World Records (GWR) on Instagram, Fernandez proudly displays his extensive collection, featuring phones from Siemens, NEC, Motorola, Blackberry, Samsung, HTC, Apple and many others. Among his most prized items are rare, limited-edition models like Nokia 3220 Star Wars Ep III collection, which includes designs inspired by Yoda, Starfighter, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Cyborg and Padawan.

According to the GWR website, Fernandez’s passion for mobile phones started with a grey Nokia 3210 which he received as a Christmas gift in 1999. He started collecting Nokias in 2008, driven by the desire to acquire all the Nokia models he missed out on previously. As his collection grew, it soon surpassed the capacity of his display cabinet and began to fill an entire room.

By 2018, Fernandez had amassed over 700 different Nokia models and expanded his focus to include other brands and even phones that were not commercially released.

“The evolution of my collection was constant, and although I had abandoned it for about a year, then I returned to the fray with the intention of getting, in addition to all the phones that Nokia launched on the market, those that it did not put on sale, the phones which we all know as prototypes,” Fernandez said as quoted by GWR.

Fernandez has also documented his journey towards his record-breaking collection on his own website, Nokia Project Dream. “In my collection, I have very exclusive and difficult to find models,” he wrote on his site.

He also acknowledged the significant perseverance and financial investment required for such an endeavor. “A collection that is still incomplete but that I continue to expand whenever possible,” he added.

Fernandez revealed that he decided to showcase his collection to the world which he believes is “not finished yet.” He explained that gathering every model Nokia ever made is an incredibly challenging task. Nokia has produced just over 1,000 different phone models, Fernandez’s collection has over 700 distinct models, along with various related objects and accessories.

“I believe that it can begin to be considered a museum and the reason why I have not waited a few more years until it was completed to present it,” he added.
