Thailand Cemetery Organises Movie Screening For Dead, Internet Left In Shock
A film screening was held in a Thailand cemetery for the dead in a bid to provide a modern form of entertainment and pacify the spirits.

There is something undeniably magical about an outdoor movie screening under swoon-worthy skies. It’s a unique experience that combines the wonder of cinema with a more relaxed atmosphere. The fresh air, starry sky and twinkling lights add a touch of whimsy and romance, which is often considered one of the top ideas for romantic dates.

However, despite it being an ideal outing, an open air movie screening in Thailand has left the internet shocked. Believe it or not, a cemetery in Thailand held film screenings for the dead. According to a South China Morning Post report, the screening of films was conducted at the graveyard from June 2 to June 6. The spooky screening event was organised by the Sawang Metta Thammasathan Foundation.

In northeastern Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima province, the resting place holds nearly 3,000 descendants. Empty chairs were reportedly laid out by the cemetery authorities in June, and a film screening was held for the dead in a bid to provide a modern form of entertainment and pacify the spirits.

The media outlet further reported that the ghosts, who were believed to have attended the screenings, were reportedly descendants of Chinese people who lived in Thailand and couldn’t go back to China.

The screenings reportedly started at 7 PM and ended at midnight each day. During the open-air show, four staff members were also present at the event, apart from the ‘expected ghost viewers’. Hold on to your horses. If you think this was it, then let us clarify that along with the unique movie screening, the staff also laid out a feast for the dead, with food, clothing, vehicles, model houses, and other daily essentials.

The South China Morning Post further mentioned that such movie screenings for the deceased are a traditional custom in Thailand, among the Chinese communities, after the Ching Ming Festival or ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival.

The contractor for the event said that he initially felt scared about screening movies in a cemetery. However, with the passing of time, he described his experience as unique and positive.

As soon as the news about the same went viral on social media, people couldn’t hold back and began sharing their views and reactions on the same. Many dubbed this idea spooky, while a few users found the custom intriguing.

“This spooky film screening event is actually a very warm idea to make the deceased feel satisfied,” a user exclaimed.
