The Internet is filled with ample funny videos that tickle the funny bones of viewers and give them a good belly laugh. Similarly, there was a viral clip of an Irish man telling a hilarious incident of himself outside a nightclub, when he bumped into a man who was presumably his doppelganger on social media. In the now-viral clip, the Irish man explains that when he was in a town called Langan Village, he ran into a man who looked ‘similar’ to him.
He recalled, “I thought I was fighting in a mirror, right, come outside the nightclub, and I was like, ‘Do I know you from somewhere?’ and he goes, ‘Do I know you?’ Do you know?”
The man reminisced that he was wearing a Celtic jersey, but ‘the green and yellow one’ specifically, and continued, “I was about to throw a punch, and he looked at me in the eyes, and he goes, ‘Am I your father?’ and I say to him, ‘Am I your son?’ and we just hugged it out.”
Sounds like a heartwarming story, right? But that’s not the end!
Elaborating further, he concludes, “Turns out that there’s no relation at all, I just headbutted him and got taken away. But you know, it goes to show you that people are out there, you could know them!”
Wondering, it might just be up there with the plot twists. But, bursting the bubble, the truth behind the clip has been revealed. It might have looked authentic, but it turns out that this video was taken from the Irish television series Hardy Bucks, and not someone’s phone.
The television series aired on RTE for four seasons over nine years, and produced this rib-tickling moment and countless more throughout its time on TV. In 2012, a movie was also made that followed the protagonists as they travelled to watch Ireland at the Euros in Ukraine and Poland.
Actor Owen Calgan does an exceptional job portraying the character in the video, Billy Buzz McDonnell, the best friend of the main character Eddie Durkan (played by Martin Mahoney). The series depicts a bunch of slackers in their 20s and their lives in small-town Ireland.
