'There Is A Limit': Influencer, Mistaken For Captain Anshuman Singh's Wife, Hits Back At Trolls
Many internet users mistakenly identified Reshma Sebastian as Smriti Singh due to perceived similarities in their facial features.

Captain Anshuman Singh, who tragically lost his life in a fire incident in Siachen, was posthumously honoured with the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime award. His wife, Smriti Singh, accepted the award on his behalf. However, following the ceremony, Captain Singh’s parents alleged that Smriti took their son’s belongings, including the chakra and left the house. The story quickly went viral online, leading to Smriti facing severe backlash on social media. However, it was later discovered that the person being criticised online was actually Reshma Sebastian, a fashion influencer from Kerala.

Many internet users mistakenly identified Reshma Sebastian as Smriti Singh due to perceived similarities in their facial features and hairstyles. Notably, Reshma Sebastian resides in Germany and is a mother to a four-year-old girl.

Reshma Sebastian has now issued a clarification, urging people to stop harassing her and revealing that she has filed a defamation case. Taking to her Instagram handle, the influencer wrote, “There is a limit. This is not Smriti Singh’s (widow of Indian Army soldier Capt Anshuman Singh) page/ig account. Please refrain from spreading false information and hate comments.” Later, in her stories, Sebastian added, “There is a limit for harassment. We filed case against defamation.”

Reshma Sebastian also shared a screenshot of posts featuring her photo, where she was unfairly trolled and accused of abandoning Captain Anshuman Singh’s parents. Sharing the posts on Instagram Stories, the fashion influencer wrote, “On what basis are you all creating these false information and hate contents.”

Captain Anshuman Singh displayed extraordinary bravery by rescuing people during a fire accident in Siachen in July 2023. Later, when the fire started spreading to a medical investigation shelter, Singh attempted to retrieve crucial medicines but suffered severe burns in the process. Despite his efforts, he tragically succumbed to his injuries. Recognising his bravery, President Droupadi Murmu awarded him the Kirti Chakra to his family. The late captain’s wife, Smriti Singh, and his mother received the honour on his behalf, acknowledging his sacrifice and courage in fulfilling his duty to the nation.

After receiving the Kirti Chakra, Smriti Singh spoke about her husband’s bravery and dedication. Smriti recalled that her husband wanted to be remembered for his courage, saying he would rather die with honour and recognition than as an ordinary person.
