This Japanese Man Has Slept Just 30 Minutes A Day For 12 Years. The Reason Will Shock You
Daisuke Hori started cutting back on sleep 12 years ago with just 30 minutes a day to gain more active hours.

An average human body requires around 6–8 hours of sleep for a healthy life. Lack of good sleep affects your mood, making it difficult to function. Experts suggest that getting 6–8 hours of sleep consistently can improve mood, cognitive function, and health. But what if we told you about a man who only slept for 30 minutes a day for the past 12 years? Yes, you read that right.

A Japanese man, Daisuke Hori, has slept only 30 minutes everyday for 12 years to “double” his life, reported the South China Morning Post. The 40-year-old from Hyogo prefecture in western Japan said he trained his body and brain to function normally with minimal sleep. He also claimed that this practice improved his work efficiency.

The South China Morning Post mentioned that Daisuke said, “As long as you do sports or drink coffee an hour before eating, you can stave off drowsiness.”

Hori, an entrepreneur, believes that high-quality sleep is more crucial than long sleep for maintaining focus. “People who need sustained focus in their work benefit more from high-quality sleep than long sleep. For instance, doctors and firefighters have shorter rest periods but maintain high efficiency,” the media outlet reported.

Diving deep into Hori’s claims, Japan’s Yomiuri TV studied him closely for three days in a reality show titled ‘Will You Go With Me?’ The show mentioned that Hori once slept for just 26 minutes and woke up with energy, had his breakfast, headed to work, and hit the gym. Yes, take your time to picture that.

Moreover, Daisuke founded the Japan Short Sleepers Training Association in 2016, where he conducts classes on sleep and health. He has taught over 2,100 students to become ultra-short sleepers.

In another one-of-a-kind case, a Vietnamese man named Thai Ngoc has not slept in over 60 years. The 80-year-old man claims that he caught a fever as a child in 1962, after which he lost his sleep. Despite different therapy and sleeping pills, Ngoc’s sleeplessness remains unaffected.
