This Post Describes Seniors As 'School Survival Guide' And We Are Taking Notes
IIT Kharagpur alum in a post said seniors can be "job gurus” and “guide you on resumes, interviews and even connect you with people in your field.”

Navigating college life in prestigious institutes like IITs can be exciting but it comes with its own set of challenges. Many young students who have to move out of their homes to attend college in other cities struggle with feelings like homesickness and loneliness. At the same time, they have to cope with college assignments, packed classes and extracurricular activities. Needless to say, all of this can be very daunting. Recently an IIT Kanpur alumni spoke about how one can find mentorship and support in their college seniors who have already gone through the highs and lows of college life.

The college seniors understand the struggles of juniors and have the experience and insight into how to manage college work and grapple with a number of things happening on campus. Seniors also end up being a great network as one looks for jobs and opportunities in the field. In a LinkedIn post, entrepreneur Umesh Jakhar simply but aptly described college seniors as “older students who’ve been through it all".

In his wholesome post, Jakhar describes the seniors as a “School Survival Guide" who can help simplify concepts and share valuable study tips. Seniors can also act as “Job Gurus" and “guide you on resumes, interviews, and even connect you with people in your field." The college seniors have the best insights and “inside scoop" on festivals and events happening in IITs. A healthy relationship with college seniors can go to great lengths to make one’s IIT experience much more fulfilling and less chaotic.

At the end of his LinkedIn post, Jakhar urged people to tag their favourite seniors in the comments. Commenting on Jakhar’s post, an X user wrote, “Networking with senior students and alumni networks is an excellent opportunity for the current students to find mentors, coaches and support. Because no one will understand their journey, better than who has already been there."

While there is no doubt that helpful seniors can make college easy for newbies, there are many unfortunate cases where seniors bully juniors. Often this bullying or ragging leads to much physical and mental harm. In 2001, the Supreme Court banned ragging across educational institutes.
