This Umbrella Has A Mind Of Its Own; Yes, You Read That Right

After a long day at work, it’s a routine for many people nowadays to scroll through social media feeds in search of refreshing content. Among them, there can be some photos and videos that will demand proper brainstorming to understand the topic. One such weird video has been doing rounds on the internet where a woman can be seen struggling to keep an umbrella under her control.

In parallel to the advancement of technology, this is not difficult for people to transform a random video into a mind-boggling one by using VFX and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Going by the fact, many might think the footage in question was modified in such a way in a bid to gain the attention of social media buffs. The video was dropped on Instagram by Unilad, with the title– “Amazing Umbrella Illusion.” The caption of the post read, “That umbrella has a mind of its own.”

No details of the clip were shared with the post but it was able to garner massive traction from the viewers. The video opens presumably outside of a shopping mall, where the woman can be spotted trying her best to open an umbrella. Despite putting in enough power, she was unable to keep the object stable.

The woman was pulling the umbrella down to the ground but it was repeatedly slipping off her hands. At one point, it was looking like nothing but a scene from a horror movie. When the woman managed to stop the vertical motion, the umbrella began to move horizontally as it seemed some kind of external force was pushing it away from its owner.

Since surfacing on Instagram, the video has accumulated more than 8,50,000 views while garnering over 16,000 likes. After watching the strange scene, many users were left scratching their heads as they were unable to predict the reason behind such an occurrence. Some of the viewers felt the woman was a magician, who was intentionally playing tricks with the umbrella.

One of them commented, “I think she’s throwing it sneakily with one hand but her body is pretending to be pulling it the opposite way- so our brains see her body language and can’t see her quick flick of the wrist.” Another user said, “She’s got elastic on her right hand attached to the tip of the umbrella.” One user reckons the woman used a “giant magnet” to make that happen.
