A Google techie shared an incident where an Uber driver in Bengaluru asked him and his friend to leave the cab after they requested him not to speak on the phone while driving. Raj Vikramaditya, visiting Bengaluru at the time, recounted the experience to Moneycontrol. According to him, the estimated journey time was 1.5 hours, during which the driver continuously spoke on the phone through a loudspeaker for the first 30 minutes. Vikramaditya politely requested the driver to use headphones or take the call later.
At this suggestion, the driver asked him and his friend to get out of his cab. Recalling this incident, Vikramaditya wrote, “We were abused, and asked to get out of the car, saying “I am not comfortable to ride with you people”. Vikramaditya also shared the photo of the cab that showed its number plate. This post soon raked in over 4 lakh views and hundreds of comments.

The viral post has prompted many people to share similar experiences while taking cab rides through Uber. An X user shared, “I too had a similar kind of experience where the Uber driver was continuously on call and that was irritating me and my friend, I called another friend of mine and then we too started talking and laughing loudly because of which the person on the other side disconnected his call.”

Another person wrote, “Reminds me of the trip we made from Bangalore to Chennai in 2022. He spoke for the entire duration even after we requested him not to. He just didn’t care. I gave up after two hours.”

Responding to Vikramaditya’s now-viral post, Uber India asked him to share the date and time of the trip along with the registered contact details. A day later Vikramaditya wrote in a separate post that Uber reached out to him and promised to take appropriate action.
Thanks @UberIN_Support for reaching out, and promising action. I am not sure how long will it take for you to take action, but glad that you did take some time out to call and listen to customer problems, instead of sending bot messages.

He also suggested the cab service company introduce new features to solve such issues and wrote, “How about introducing two new features. 1) raising issue from the app for no-ac while in-ride 2) raising issue for “using phone”. In both the cases, uber can ask the customer to send some picture or a small clip, and then AI can verify and trigger a warning, on multiple warnings, you can take some action.”
