Watch: Gurugram Becomes 'Jalgram' After Rain Causes Severe Waterlogging, Drainage Overflow
Friday was the third consecutive day when Delhi and NCR experienced moderate to heavy spells of rain.

The in-route officer workers and school kids in Gurugram found themselves stuck in heavy traffic caused by waterlogged roads following a heavy spell of rain on Friday morning. There are multiple reports and social media posts pointing to how areas in the Millennium City were facing flood-like conditions. Concerning videos showed drains overflowing. Some commuters were seen wading in knee-deep water as they tried to make their way out of the waterlogged roads and alleys.

The Narsinghpur stretch of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway and places near Basai and Golf Course Extension Road got heavily inundated. The usually busy National Highway 48 (NH-48) which goes past Delhi and Sohna Road showed traffic congestion, especially during office hours. Residential areas in Dwarka Expressway, Sector 9, Sector 21, Sector 23, Sector 52, 48 and Sector 10 complained of waterlogging.

Here are some posts that show the crumbling infrastructure and flood-like condition in Gurugram, as of Friday morning.

A video showed blackish sewer water gushing out of a manhole into an already flooded road.

Someone shared a video of a car half submerged in water and wrote, “World class infrastructure. This person lives in a posh area and owns a BMW M340i, Mercedes Class probably pays the highest amount of tax and this is what he gets in return. We are doomed!”

An X user posted a video that captures a water-filled ground near HUDA market, Sector 56 Gurugram.

A local shared videos of water filled roads and parks and wrote, “Welcome to millennium city Gurugram, where within one hour of rain roads become rivers. Great infrastructure development with the hard earned money of taxpayers.”

Commenting on a video of a flooded road, an X user wrote, “This is a result of over-concretisation and no drainage. This is just bad city planning. Your taxes are feeding the politicians, the bureaucrats and the contractors and what we get is shoddy planning and work.”

Another person opined, “We are a city of expressways and highways but every rain these turn into Venice of Haryana. Government should start Gondola rides here and add to revenue generated by Millennium City.”

An X user posted a video of some young kids playing in waist-deep water on the road. They reframed Gurugram and Jalgram.

For three consecutive days now, Delhi and NCR have experienced moderate to heavy spells of rain. The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for NCR and forecasted heavy rain spells till July 28. The orange alert is a warning about extremely bad weather that can cause power interruption and disruption of road and rail commutes.
