The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has started a new Fidayeen operation, Herof (Black Storm), to be carried out by its elite group, the Majeed Brigade.
The operation was launched on Monday, the death anniversary of Akbar Bugti, former CM of Balochistan, who was killed during General Musharraf’s regime in 2006. As part of this, they have started to attack and take control of major camps of the Pakistan Army.
Other units of the BLA have taken charge of highways and roads across Balochistan to support the Majeed Brigade. In a statement, the BLA had earlier asked for complete support from the people of Baloch. The BLA had also requested the residents, police and others to help them as their fight is with the Pakistan military and requested the police not to interfere. Additionally, they also said if they don’t understand, the BLA cadre won’t hesitate to attack them.
Top BLA sources told CNN-News18 that they are exploited by Pakistan without giving them their due.
They also said they wanted to draw international attention to the long-standing Baloch insurgency against the ongoing Pakistani military occupation and exploitation of their resources. Millions of people have been abducted and have disappeared, with no idea of their whereabouts, they said.
“We are struggling to know about our son, father, uncles and relatives for years. We want independence from Pakistan and Iran and this new operation is a complete shift from our earlier Guerrilla style,” said BLA sources.
WHAT TOP SOURCES IN INDIAN INTELLIGENCE SAY
“The Baloch Missing Persons’ Movement is right now at its peak and is headed by Dr Maharang Baloch. This kind of energy and coordination is seen for the first time in Baloch attacks,” according to top sources in Indian intelligence.
“They have control over the highways and roads and all inside activities are in their control, which is significant. This highway and road control is going to hit the CPEC project for some time and can impact Pakistan and China relations. China has always been critical of the Pakistan Army on killings in this area and their workers, too, were killed from time to time,” they said.
This operation will put additional burden on the Pakistan Army and they will have to stretch themselves in Balochistan. “The entry in Bela-type camps is a significant move. This operation is a tactical shift and this will bring Baloch and the Pakistan government to talking table, as beyond a point Pakistan can’t afford to lose business around this area,” they said.
