A writer from the animated comedy show even addressed the coincidence on social media.

“The Simpsons” seemingly predicted Vice President Kamala Harris seeking the Democratic presidential nomination in the animated show, as seen in an episode aired in the year 2000.

The episode titled “Bart to the Future” shows Lisa Simpson becoming the first female president of the United States. In that episode, Lisa is seen donning the purple pants and a matching jacket, very similar to what Kamala Harris wore in 2021 during Joe Biden’s inauguration. The pearl necklace and earrings also appear to be matching.

Vice President Kamala Harris is being thrust into the most scrutinising of spotlights, suddenly the leading candidate to succeed President Joe Biden as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee and her party’s main hope of defeating Donald Trump after President Joe Biden gave up his reelection campaign.

The back-to-back images of Lisa and Harris, 59, went viral on social media site X on Sunday.

“The Simpsons as Prophetic has become one of the most enduring mysteries of our times!” a fan of the show tweeted. “It’s unnerving how often these predictions have been spot on,” said another.

A writer from the show even decided to address the coincidence and the similarities on a social media post.

Al Jean, a screenwriter for the show, also posted the photo with the caption: “@TheSimpsons ‘prediction’ I’m proud to be a part of”.

In the episode Lisa can be heard saying: “We’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump”.

The show created by Matt Groening has become famous for predicting future events and its popularity soared after its prediction that Donald Trump would be US President came true.

“We predicted that he would be president back in 2000 — but [Trump] was, of course, the most absurd placeholder joke name that we could think of at the time, and that’s still true. It’s beyond satire,” Groening told UK-based newspaper the Guardian in a 2016 interview.

The show has also correctly predicted the Capitol riot, the “Game of Thrones” finale, the coronavirus pandemic and more.
