Team India had a rare off-day with the bat despite the flying start given to the team by Rohit Sharma who scored 47 quickly with his usual risk-taking approach against the experienced Australian bowling attack. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul managed to bring up the fifties, but India did not post a defendable score as they finished the first innings with 241 runs on the board.
Mohammed Kaif praised the Australian bowling attack for their execution with the ball in the first innings. He said,” Achi planning thi Cummins ki, slower bouncer se batsmen ko phasaya aur uske baad chase ki.” He said that Cummins had planned well, he trapped the batters with the slower bouncers and they chased down the target.”

He said,” I know how Rohit Sharma must be feeling. I was part of the 2003 squad when we lost to Australia led by Ricky Ponting.”
Many others from the cricketing fraternity had also shared their pride for India’s performance in the tournament. Virat Kohli managed to set the record for the most runs scored by a batter in a World Cup campaign. Mohammed Shami had a stellar campaign in the World Cup as well coming in the squad after Hardik Pandya got injured.
Travis Head was the star of the finals just like in the WTC23 finals. He scored 137 to lead Australia to their record-extending sixth World Cup title.
Team India will now look ahead for the five-match T20 series against Australia which will take place from November 23. After this, they will also tour South Africa as well.
