Ford Motor is gearing up to reopen its manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, India, after a three-year break.
The company shared its intentions on Friday, aiming to return to the market it left behind.
In a new move, Ford submitted a letter of intent to the Tamil Nadu government, just two days after the state’s chief minister revealed that talks were ongoing to restart the plant, this time focusing on exports.

Ford had stopped making cars for Indian buyers in 2021 due to low sales and completely halted exports in 2022, stepping away from India’s competitive car market, which is largely controlled by Asian brands.
According to NDTV, Ford confirmed that the reopened facility will primarily focus on producing vehicles for international markets. Details on the models and more will be shared soon.
Before shutting down, Ford’s Chennai plant was known for manufacturing both cars and engines.
