Pune: PMC Begins Work On Shastrinagar Flyover To Ease Traffic, All You Need To Know
The real construction work will kick off in September. Right now, consultants are busy planning, conducting traffic surveys, and testing the soil based on the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has kicked off preliminary work on a Y-shaped flyover and grade separator at Shastrinagar Chowk.

This new flyover aims to reduce traffic congestion on Ahmednagar Road.

PMC plans to start the actual construction in September. For now, consultants are busy with planning, traffic surveys, and soil testing based on the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

Abhijit Ambekar, the executive engineer of the special projects department, said, “The project was planned four years ago, but things have changed since then. So, the consultant is updating the old design.”

“In the original plan, we needed to widen the road due to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane. But since the BRT on Ahmednagar Road has been dismantled, we now have 7 meters of extra land for the flyover, eliminating the need for road widening,” he explained, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Ambekar also mentioned, “We are currently considering a Y-shaped flyover and grade separator at Shastrinagar Chowk. The consultant will suggest more designs, and PMC will finalize one.”

Initially, the plan for Shastrinagar Chowk included a flyover and subway to ease traffic. However, because of the nearby historical Aga Khan Palace, PMC needed a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Archaeology Survey of India (ASI).

On April 5, 2024, an audio-visual presentation was made to the National Monuments Authority in Delhi to get the necessary approval. Afterward, the central and state archaeology departments granted the NOC, allowing the project to proceed.
