In a heartwarming incident in the village of Karada, Karnataka, a wild elephant surprised locals by giving birth to its calf inside a house. The delivery occurred at night in the courtyard of a house owned by a resident named Kuttoda Manju. The discovery of the adorable scene unfolded the next morning, prompting curious villagers to gather and witness the extraordinary event.
Upon learning of the unexpected occurrence, a crowd assembled to catch a glimpse of the newborn elephant. However, upon sensing the growing audience, the mother elephant, which had been waiting in a nearby garden, decided to leave the area. Forest department officials were promptly alerted, and they initiated a search for the mother elephant to ensure her safety and the well-being of the newborn calf.
This heartening incident echoes a similar event that transpired in June of the same year when another wild elephant gave birth on a road in the Aralam Farm Agricultural Nursery in Kannur, Kerala. During the nighttime delivery, the mother elephant was accompanied by five others who seemed to be protectively watching over her.
Following the birth, the mother elephant gently caressed the newborn calf and guided it towards the safety of the farm’s bushes. To safeguard both the elephants and the residents, the area was placed under special surveillance by forest authorities.
Adding to the series of heartwarming events, another elephant named Netravathi, brought to Shivamogga, Karnataka, from the Sakrebaiu camp for a Dusshera festival procession, unexpectedly gave birth to a female calf on the auspicious day of Dusshera. Remarkably, a pregnancy test conducted three months prior had yielded negative results. The mother elephant and her newborn calf were safely transferred back to the camp, which now proudly houses 22 elephants, including the latest addition.
