New Delhi: The last trading day of the week created history with both the key indices - the Sensex and the Nifty - managing to conquer 14,000 and 4,000 respectively.

After a strong opening, on the back of strong global sentiment, markets continue the up trend and Sensex breached its previous high of 14,060.35 while Nifty breached its previous high of 4,046.85 during the day - and the markets managed to maintain their momentum all through the day.

The BSE benchmark Sensex touched an intra-day high of 14,070.88 points while broad-based Nifty touched an intra-day high of 4,059.15 points.

About 1591 shares have advanced, 1044 shares declined, and 41 shares are unchanged. There were no losers on the Sensex and Nifty indices. ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and SBI were the top gainers on the Sensex as well as the Nifty.

Stock brokers said reports of firming trends in overseas markets and expectations of improved third-quarter results from corporate majors were the major factors behind the upward march.

They said the government's decision to lift completely the ban on exports of sugar too had a positive impact on the trading sentiments, triggering fresh buying activity in sugar company stocks.
