Market ends in red: Realty, cap goods stocks down

Mumbai: The markets ended in red taking a breadher after running hard in the past few sessions. Profit booking was seen in scrips across sectors. Realty, capital goods, IT and FMCG stocks. Markets recorded second highest turnover in history; at Rs 122730.99 crore.

Selling was seen in frontliners like L&T, ICICI Bank and DLF etc. Cues from Asia were weak as most of the Asia was in red. ICICI Bank, Nalco, Maruti, Ranbaxy, Satyam, SBI, Tata Motors, ACC, Ambuja Cements, Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel, BHEL, Cipla, HDFC Bank were trading in red.

Mastek was up 20 per cent and is locked in upper circuit in the morning trade on the back of good first quarter numbers and on buyback news. Koutons Retail has listed at Rs 519, up 25 per cent over its offer price of Rs 415.

On weekly basis Sensex was up 3.8 per cent and Nifty was up 4.8 per cent. Telecom stocks like Reliance Communication, VSNL and power stocks like Reliance Energy and Tata Power were among the top gainers.

Sensex was down 395.03 points or 2.10 per cent at 18419.04, and the Nifty down 96.60 points or 1.75 per cent at 5428.25. About 1192 shares have advanced, 1780 shares declined, and 73 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 122730.99 down 0.8 per cent. The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 9,098.65 down 0.2 per cent.

The BSE Bankex was down 2.6 per cent at 9,310.79. SBI, IOB, ICICI Bank, Andhra Bank, Karnataka Bank, Kotak Mahindra, SBI, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank, Bank of India moved upwards. The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 3 per cent at 16,614.69. L&T, Suzlon Energy, Areva T&D, BHEL, Triveni Engg closed lower.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,514.53 down 1.6 per cent. Escorts, MRF, Cummins, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto closed lower. The BSE Metal Index closed flat at 14,841.44. Tata Steel, SAIL, Shree Precoated, Jindal Steel, Mah Seamless, Hindalco, JindalStainless closed lower.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,142.13 down 2 per cent. United Spirits, Bata India, United Brewerie, Colgate, HUL closed lower

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 10,575.95 down 1.4 per cent. HPCL, IOC, Essar Oil, Reliance, Reliance Petro ended in red. The BSE IT Index was down 1.6 per cent at 4,687.79.Tech Mahindra, Satyam, I-Flex Solution, Infosys, Mphasis closed higher.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 22741.82 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 90419.66 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 9569.51 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 122730.99 crore.
