‘A Fantastic Piece Of Art:’ Rajinikanth On Karthik Subbaraj’s Jigarthanda Double X
Starring Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah, Jigarthanda Double X released on the occasion of Diwali and has been receiving rave reviews.

The 2014-Tamil film Jigarthanda had turned out to be a big hit and developed a substantial cult following. Its success led to multiple remakes in different languages — with Kannada cinema remaking it with the same name, Telugu cinema as Gaddalakonda Ganesh and Bollywood remaking it as Bachchan Pandey. After almost a decade, Jigarthanda’s director Karthik Subbaraj has come up with its sequel titled Jigarthanda Double X. Starring Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah, Jigarthanda Double X released on the occasion of Diwali and has been receiving rave reviews.

The movie has also caught the attention of Karthik Subbaraj’s role model — Rajinikanth. He has come up with a long letter of appreciation after watching Jigarthanda Double X. “Jigarthanda DoubleX is a Kurunji flower (which blooms once in 12 years in Kodaikanal),” wrote Rajinikanth. “Karthik Subbaraj has created a fantastic piece of art. There are scenes in it that Tamil fans have never seen. The way Raghava Lawrence acted has left me surprised, made me question whether he is a better actor or a better director. The best performance today is SJ Suryah. In this movie, he played a supporting role, a villain, and a comic”. He added, “Santosh Narayanan has proven himself as the best music composer with his work in this movie.”

Karthik Subbaraj was so overwhelmed by this kind gesture of Rajinikanth that he shared the letter on his Instagram handle for the world to see. He captioned it, “When Thalaivar said…. “For my boys” Love you Thalaivaaa.”

Karthik Subbaraj considers Rajinikanth as his role model.

Karthik Subbaraj and Rajinikanth collaborated on Petta, which became a successful movie.

Jigarthanda Double X is a film about a hero, who aspires to be the first dark-skinned celebrity in Tamil cinema’s history in the 1970s. Karthik, who calls himself a fan of Rajinikanth, has paid tribute to the actor with this film.
