Angry Nayanthara Lashes Out at Media in Viral Video, Says 'This Is Why I Stopped Giving Interviews'

Tamil actress Nayanthara, who is known as the lady superstar in Tamil cinema, has distanced herself from the media years ago. The Jawan star has not given interviews for years now and make limited media appearances as well. Even during the success press meet of Jawan, Nayanthara was missing in action. While Nayanthara skipped the media event due to her mother’s birthday, the actress had once revealed that she has taken a massive step back from the media after distasteful reports written about her.

In an old video going viral on Reddit, Nayanthara was seen speaking with Asianet, a news channel, and broke down the reasons that eventually led to her decision ban interviews. Without mincing her words, Nayanthara said in Malayalam that she feels the media targeted her at the time ‘unnecessarily’ with unverified gossips and rumours which hurt her and her family. Nayanthara also recalled being criticised by the Malayalam audience for appearing in glamourous roles in Tamil movies as against to simple but powerful roles in Malayalam.

She was not on board with the criticism. She broke down the dynamics of Tamil cinema and said that she understands that in a film headlined by Rajinikanth and Ajith, she cannot play a prominent part and she is okay with it. She was also affected by the wedding rumours.

“Won’t my family get hurt? What did I do for my family to get hurt? What I am doing is my work. I am doing what my directors are telling me. No one can point out anything in that. Why are you doing glamourous [roles] and not doing homely [roles]. No one has the right to ask all these things. If you like it, you can watch, if you don’t like it then don’t watch. There are so many people who like to watch and who like me. You can criticize but you need to be right about things,” Nayanthara said in the interview.

“You shouldn’t have done this character this way, or your acting was not to the point, these are proper criticisms. And not the ones who come and say why did you do that, etc. This is why I stopped giving interviews, and when there are controversies about me, I know when I need to clarify, and I will clarify only at that time. Otherwise, I would not say anything. A lot of things are written about me to provoke me, I just simply don’t get provoked. Only when I feel I want to speak about something, only that time I will talk about it,” she added.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, a report had claimed that Nayanthara is upset with Atlee and in the process, reintiated that Nayanthara has distanced herself from media due to past experience. “Nayanthara never goes to the films events. She follows a no promotion policy for her films because of her bad experiences in the past when she was misquoted and because she feels that her job is to act and not get involved in the promotional activities,” the source told Hindustan Times.
