Even though Annapoorani got positive reviews, it was overshadowed by Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, Joju George’s Antony and Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur.

After the success of Jawan, Nayanthara made a striking comeback to the silver screen with Annapoorani: The Goddess Of Food. The film is directed and written by Nilesh Krishnaa. Despite its potential to be a remarkable film, it premiered with a low-key opening and also disappointed fans due to a lacklustre promotional campaign and concurrent release of the much-hyped film, Animal. The film was released on December 1 which is headlined by Nayanthara and Jai.

Even though the film got positive reviews, it was overshadowed by Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, Joju George’s Antony and Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur. Annapoorani: The Goddess Of Food has seen a steep downfall in its domestic box office numbers on Day 5. According to the entertainment industry tracker, Sacnilk, the film on Monday earned around Rs 36 lakh with a -58.62 per cent change compared to the opening collection which was approximately Rs 65 lakh. The film on the Day 5 i.e. the first Tuesday has reportedly earned only Rs 6 lakh, taking the total collection of the film to Rs 2.84 crore.

The film’s overall occupancy in Tamil-speaking states on Day 4 was around 16.58 per cent. The morning and the afternoon show witnessed occupancy of 16 per cent and 16.93 per cent. It saw the highest occupancy in the evening show with 17.16 per cent and dipped a bit in the night show with occupancy of Rs 16.22 per cent.

The story of Annapoorani revolves around Nayanthara’s titular character who hails from an orthodox, upper-caste family and aspires to become a chef. But when she realises that her passion also involves cooking meat which is forbidden in her family, she decides to keep her passion a secret from her family. However, the turn comes after her secret is revealed after an accident.

Apart from Jai and Nayanthara, the film also features Achyuth Kumar, KS Ravikumar, Sathyaraj and Redin Kingsley in crucial roles.

Nayanthara will next be seen in producer-turned-director Sashikanth’s film Test, which also features R Madhavan and Siddharth. The makers recently released the first look poster. The actress is also currently busy the shooting for Dude Vicky-directed film Mannangatti Since 1960 which also features Yogi Babu, Devadarshini, Gouri Kishan and Narendra Prasath.
