Suruli Falls is located near the Cumbum region of the Theni district in Tamil Nadu. This region is famous for its Saaral festival, which is usually held on behalf of the district administration and tourism department of the state. This ceremony last took place in 2019. Since then, the Saaral festival has not been held due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Now after 3 years, the preparation for this festival is underway at the Suruli Falls this year. This festival is usually held for 2 days; but this time, it will be celebrated for 6 days. Saaral festival started on September 27 and will go on till October 2 in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu. During this festival, every day from 10 am to 4 pm, several awareness and village art programs are held. This festival will also witness numerous sports competitions.
While addressing the gathering, the district collector said that the awareness exhibition would become the major highlight of this festival, as quoted by an ABP news report. It will be organised by various departments such as Public Relations, Tourism, Forest, Integrated Child Development Program, Health, Agriculture, Horticulture Department, Social Welfare and Water Resources Department.
Organised by the Theni district administration and tourist department, the artistic performances of the college and school students are taking place in this festival. Silambattam Pattimandram art form, which talks about the life of Tamilians, will also be performed by the artists during this Saaral festival.
The Devarattam folk dance was also performed by the dancers of Sri Dattaya Swamy Art Group. This artistic group hails from Banduvarpatti Village, near Andipatti town in Tamil Nadu. This folk dance is also known as the dance of god. The Tourism Department of Tamil Nadu has been conducting such programs for 40 years. At the Suruli Saaral festival, a Devarattam program consists of 10 members of the art group. They perform under the leadership of the art group leader Chellachami.
