Explained: Why Indian Jersey for Zimbabwe T20Is Has Only One Star Over BCCI Crest
Indian fans are curious to know why, despite winning two T20 World Cup titles, Indian players are wearing jerseys with only one star during the first T20I against Zimbabwe.

A week after becoming T20 World Cup 2024 champions, the Indian men’s cricket team is taking on Zimbabwe in a five-match T20I series. The series opener is currently underway at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Saturday (July 6). In the absence of T20 World Cup 2024-winning team members, young opening batter Shubman Gill is leading Team India, and after winning the toss, he opted to field first in the first match.

India became the third team in the world to win two T20 World Cup titles on June 29, after getting the better of South Africa by seven runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. As a result of two T20 World Cup titles, the Indian team T20I jersey should have two stars. But during the first T20I against Zimbabwe, Indian players were seen wearing jerseys that had only one star, which came as a surprise to many fans.

The BCCI hasn’t provided any official reason why the Indian team jersey has only one star, but it is assumed that it is because there was very little time between the T20 World Cup final and the start of the Zimbabwe series. It is believed that BCCI had the jerseys already printed for the tour and handed them out to the Indian players before they departed for the series. As they were playing an away series, there has been no time to reprint the new jersey and also transport them to Zimbabwe to hand them out to the team.

However, the possibility of Indian players wearing jerseys with two stars in the upcoming matches cannot be ruled out.

Two stars for two titles

After winning the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados on Saturday (June 29), the Indian team returned home on July 4. The players arrived in Delhi to meet PM Narendra Modi and were seen wearing Indian jerseys with two stars. During the victory celebration in Mumbai later in the evening, the players were seen wearing the same jersey.

Three debutants in the first T20I

Indian team management handed T20I debuts to Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel in Harare on Saturday. The trio was picked for the ongoing series after producing a good show with the bat for their franchises in the IPL 2024.
