Akash Deep registered his highest Test score as he made 17 off 30 on the second morning of the first match between India and Bangladesh in Chennai. His innings, featuring four boundaries, delighted the India players in the dressing room as he unleashed a couple of stylish shots.

However, right before his dismissal, Akash was left in pain after a rogue throw from Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud struck him flush on the back that required team physio’s attention.
Akash was tended to by the physio as the game was halted for a few moments. Hasan was later seen having a word with the India fast bowler, possibly apologising for the inadvertent mistake.
Jab hasan fielder ne throw mara to vo sidha akashdeep ki kamar pe jake laga to waha hasan ne ake unko sorry to boli lekin jab uska replay dressing room me chala to virat kohli ne pta nhi kya bola jisko sunke gambhir mu niche krke hasne lage #IndVsBan #ViratKohli #RohitSharma pic.twitter.com/vPDarJsyxM— CRICUU (@CRICUUU) September 20, 2024
During Akash’s painful moment, players in the Indian dressing room were seen having a laugh purportedly after something Virat Kohli had to say to head coach Gautam Gambhir. The remark left Gambhir in splits with captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill also joining in the fun.
Incidentally, on Day 1, India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had an angry exchange with his Bangladesh counterpart Litton Das claiming the fielders were aiming their throws at him.
Meanwhile, India were bowled out for 376 in their first innings on Day 2 at Chepauk with Hasan claiming a five-wicket haul. He thus became the first Bangladeshi bowler to claim a Test five-for on Indian soil.
Ashwin was the top-scorer for India with 113 off 133, an innings featuring 11 fours and two sixes. Together with Ravindra Jadeja, who made 86 off 124, he added 199 runs for the seventh wicket to revive the innings.
It was Hasan whose three-wicket burst in the first session of Day 1 left India wobbling as they were reduced to 34/3 after Bangladesh opted to bowl first.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant repaired the damage with a 62-run partnership for the fourth wicket to take the score to 96/3 before slipping to 144/6. Ashwin and Jadeja then counterattacked to put India back in control.
