The first-ever white-ball bilateral series between India and Afghanistan is scheduled to start this Thursday, January 11, with a T20I match in Mohali. The T20I series opener between the two Asian giants will be hosted by Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium. The T20I series against Afghanistan will see the return of Rohit Sharma in the shortest format. Rohit will also lead the hosts in the three-match T20I series against the Afghans.

Apart from skipper Rohit, star India batter Virat Kohli will also script a comeback to T20I cricket during the series against the Afghan side. The series will be closely monitored by the Indian team selectors as the T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played later this year in June.

The two teams have so far faced each other five times in T20Is with the Indian cricket emerging victorious in four matches. The last T20I match between the two sides produced no result. The first-ever T20I fixture between India and Afghanistan took place in May 2010.
