Not MS Dhoni! Navjot Sidhu Says 35-Year-Old Cricketer Is 'Greatest Role Model India Has Ever Seen' - WATCH
According to Sidhu, he will always remember the 35-year-old batter as an icon, as the greatest inspiration, and above all, as a cup of joy for billions who watch cricket all over.

Former Indian batter Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has now donned the hat of an expert and commentator, has reserved big praise for batting superstar Virat Kohli by calling the 35-year-old star batter the greatest role model India has ever seen. Kohli was horribly out of form in the T20 World Cup 2024 for India, but in the final match against South Africa, which was played in Barbados on June 29, he found his lost touch and scored 76 runs from 59 balls to help India post a total of 176 runs. The 177-run target proved too much for South Africa, and they could only score 169 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.

For his super show with the bat in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024, Kohli won the Player of the Match award. The former India captain is the only cricketer in the world to win the U-19 World Cup, the ODI World Cup, the T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy.

While reviewing India’s performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 during a Star Sports show, Sidhu praised Kohli by saying that he will always remember him as an icon.

“When it mattered the most, jab 1.5 billion Indians were praying for victory and praying ki hum choke naa kar jaaye, waha he (Virat) stood like a rock of Gibraltar in the sea of ruins. Vo ek end ko pakad ke khadar aha. Akele ne jab naiya fasi hui thi tb bharatvarsh ko vo World Cup ka taaj diya. Virat Kohli—a man of adversity, a man of masses, a master performer, a genius—for me he will always be remembered as an icon, as the greatest inspiration above all, a cup of joy for billions and billions who watch cricket all over," Sidhu said.

“Virat Kohli is the greatest role model that India has ever seen. Thank you, and I salute you," he added.

Kohli, who is the all-time leading run scorer in T20 World Cup history with 1292 runs to his name, finished his T20I career with 4188 runs in 125 matches for India. He holds the record for scoring the most half-centuries in the shortest format of the game and is only behind Rohit Sharma in the leading run scorers list.
