They triumphed over arch-rivals Pakistan in the inaugural 2007 edition to secure the inaugural title. In 2014, India lost the T20 World Cup final to Sri Lanka. Group Stage

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah was at his devastating best on the New York surface where India played the next two league matches as well. They defeated Pakistan by six wickets in a low-scoring clash before notching a seven-wicket victory over the USA. India were slated to cap off the league stage with a match against Canada. The Group A game, however, was washed out due to incessant rain in Florida.

Super 8s

India competed against Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia in the Super 8 stage, which took place in the Caribbean islands. Rohit Sharma and Co. were not troubled much in overcoming the two Asian sides in the first two matches, which they won by 47 and 50 runs, respectively.

In the last match against Australia, India batted first and produced 205, courtesy of Rohit Sharma’s blazing 92-run knock which comprised seven boundaries and 8 sixes. Indian bowlers once again stole the show in St Lucia as they bundled out the Aussies for 181 runs to seal their place in the semi-finals.

Semi-Final

Rain caused some interruptions in India’s first knockout match in Guyana. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and sent the opponents to bat first. India lost the wickets of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in the powerplay. Rohit Sharma then joined hands with Suryakumar Yadav and the duo revived the innings with a 73-run stand.

The Indian captain notched his second consecutive half-century, registering 57 off 39 balls. Surya also showcased some brilliant shots but missed the fifty by three runs. The all-rounders– Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja– made some crucial contributions as India folded with 171 runs.

Coming to defend, the Indian pacers struggled a bit in the first few overs. That’s when Axar Patel was brought into the attack. The spin-bowling all-rounder struck in his very first delivery, dismissing Jos Buttler. Following the captain’s wicket, no other England batter could survive long. Axar and Kuldeep Yadav picked three wickets each while Jasprit Bumra fetched two scalps as England were all out at 103 runs in 16.4 overs.
