WATCH: Suryakumar Yadav On How Wife Kept Him ‘Humble’ And ‘Grounded’

Suryakumar Yadav was visibly emotional after winning the T20 World Cup trophy in Barbados. Talking about the historic triumph, Surya said it would take him some time to realise what just occurred. The Indian batter tried to keep a smile on his face during the interview as he said, “I don’t know what to say right now. It will take some time, maybe a day or two to sink in. Maybe when we land in India, we will come to know what has happened.” The clip of Surya’s overwhelming emotions was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). “Emotions galore as Suryakumar Yadav expresses himself post the victory in Barbados,” read the post.

Indian fans were touched by Suryakumar’s passion for the sport. Many flocked to the comments section to thank the Indian batter for his spectacular catch in the final against South Africa. One of them wrote, “What a turning point after the catch”.

Another agreed and added, “Our champion’s one of the finest best catch taken Surya. Congratulations sir”.

“Dada, watching that catch still gives goosebumps,” wrote another person.

One fan urged BCCI to allow Suryakumar Yadav to keep the match ball after such a catch. “Is there a way he can keep the ball that he caught! BCCI can you make it happen?” he asked.

Suryakymar took a stunning catch on Hardik Pandya’s opening delivery of the last over in the T20 World Cup final. He used his presence of mind to dismiss David Miller, sealing the crown for India.

In the BCCI-shared video, Suryakumar also talked about how he was just trying to enjoy the historic victory. He said, “Just living in the moment. Enjoying everything right now, with family around, everything.”

Suryakumar also paid a warm tribute to his wife Devisha Shetty. Bringing her in front of the camera, Surya talked about how Devisha kept him humble throughout the campaign. “She’s been…She’s been keeping me very humble since the start of the tournament. We haven’t spoken about it but yes, back of the mind we had that we’ll take this and go back home. Very happy with it,” he said.

Chasing a target of 177, South Africa fell short by seven runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final contest. Virat Kohli was adjudged Player of the Match for his solid knock of 76 against the Proteas in the summit clash.
