Cameron Bancroft stole the show with his big-hitting prowess during the Big Bash League (BBL) match between Sydney Thunders and Adelaide Strikers on Tuesday.
With Sydney electing to bat first, Bancroft opened their innings along with English batter Alex Hales. Despite losing his partner early in the game, Bancroft went on to continue his demolition job. The Australian opener played a quickfire knock of 74 runs, which was laced with four boundaries and one maximum.
Though Bancroft managed to send the ball over the rope just once, it was enough to send the crowd at the Adelaide Oval into a frenzy. The powerful shot directly landed on a plastic chair placed just outside the boundary line and ended up breaking a spindle on its back post. Sydney Thunders shared a clip of the thunderous strike on X (formerly Twitter). The caption of the post read, “Pinpoint accuracy from Bangers.”

The event transpired in the 15th over of Sydney Thunders’ innings when Cameron Bancroft had already completed his half-century. Adelaide pacer David Payne bowled a slower delivery to Bancroft. As the ball pitched right on his slot, Bancroft picked it up with excellent timing. He swept it towards the deep mid-wicket. An Adelaide fielder was positioned near the fence but the ball was well out of his reach.
Riding on Bancroft’s thunderous innings, Sydney Thunders produced a mammoth 200 runs on the board. Among others, Alex Ross smashed 46 runs off 26 balls while Oliver Davies scored 32 in 17 deliveries. Coming in to bat at No 7, Nathan McAndrew also put up an enthralling show as the Aussie all-rounder made 22 runs at a 200-plus strike rate.
Though it looked like an easy deal for Sydney, more drama was awaiting in the second innings. Adelaide Striker pulled off a blazing start to the chase, with the opening pair of Matthew Short and D Arcy Short stitching a 139-run partnership. Captain Short wrapped up as the top scorer for his team, registering 82 runs off 41 balls. Arcy Short also notched a fifty, scoring 66 runs. The upcoming batters used the foundation well and reached the target in 19.4 overs with six wickets in hand.
