CBSE issued an advisory on June 6 stating that the board has detected significant discrepancies in theory and practical marks of students from more than 500 schools across the country.

This is an important update for students who appeared for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 10 and 12 examinations this year. According to reports, the board has found a discrepancy in the results. CBSE issued an advisory on June 6 stating that the board has detected significant discrepancies in theory and practical marks of students from more than 500 schools across the country.

The notice read, “The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has detected, through advanced AI tools, a significant variation between theory and practical marks in certain subjects among 50 percent or more students in about 500 CBSE-affiliated schools, based on past years’ result statistics.”

The board further stated that their main aim is to make the process of awarding internal and practical marks more transparent and reliable. With this aim, the board issued the advisory notice and ordered the schools to review their internal assessment procedures. “The aim is to implement a more robust, transparent, and reliable mechanism to ensure that the assessment process is realistic and adds substantial value to the student’s academic journey,” the advisory read.

The CBSE board mentioned that the advisory serves as a reminder to prioritise fairness and accuracy in assessing the practical examinations ensuring the quality of education prescribed by the board.

Will CBSE re-evaluate the marks?

Many people are keen to know whether this advisory will affect the 10th and 12th results already released. Will there be a re-evaluation process for the issued results? According to reports, students whose results have already been released need not worry. This advisory will come into force from next year.
