The National Testing Agency (NTA) is considering major reforms to major competitive exams like JEE Main 2025, NEET 2025, UGC NET, and CUET 2025. A committee has been formed to evaluate possible improvements, with the report expected to be released after October 21. As a result, speculation is growing about how these exams will be conducted in the future.
A key point of uncertainty is whether certain exams will retain their current formats- Computer-Based Test (CBT) or pen-and-paper mode. At present, JEE Main is conducted in CBT mode, while NEET, the entrance exam for medical courses, follows the pen-and-paper format. However, given the recent controversies surrounding the NEET exam, there is speculation that NEET may switch to a computer-based format.
The final decision on this matter will depend on the findings of the upcoming committee report and the new guidelines that will follow. These guidelines are expected to clarify examination formats, rules, and possible reforms aimed at ensuring smoother and stricter procedures. Students are advised to stay informed, as further clarity will emerge once the official report is made public.
The NTA also appears to be tightening security measures for competitive exams such as JEE Main, NEET, UGC NET, and CUET. Reports suggest that NTA is determined to implement stricter protocols to ensure no leniency is permitted during these examinations. To enhance security, NTA has already taken steps, including issuing tenders to hire a new agency specifically tasked with monitoring the exams.
One of the key changes being considered is an increase in the number of CCTV cameras at examination centres, with one camera required for every 24 students in an exam room. This enhanced surveillance system will be tested during exams in Gujarat before being rolled out for future national-level exams. These changes reflect NTA’s intention to ensure fair and transparent exams, reducing the likelihood of malpractice or irregularities. By adopting this proactive approach, the agency aims to strengthen the credibility of the testing process, providing students with a more secure examination environment.
