Samantha Ruth Prabhu says god sent help to her on Citadel: Honey Bunny sets in the form of her directors and co-stars. She thanks them for their faith in her.

In 2022, Samantha Ruth Prabhu took on one of the most challenging projects of her career with Citadel: Honey Bunny, the Indian spin-off of the Russo Brothers’ Citadel. The action-packed series, set to release on November 7 on Prime Video, demanded rigorous physical performances, but behind the scenes, Samantha was battling more than just high-octane stunts. She had been diagnosed with myositis, an autoimmune condition, which made her experience on set all the more difficult.

Samantha had publicly shared her myositis diagnosis on Instagram, revealing that remission was taking longer than expected and that she was grappling with the physical and emotional toll of the illness. In her new health podcast series, Take 20, she opened up about a frightening moment on set, where she “passed out” and suffered a head concussion while filming an intense action sequence.

Despite these struggles, Samantha pushed through the shoot, describing Citadel: Honey Bunny as one of the toughest projects she’s ever worked on.

In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Samantha reflected on the support she received from her directors, Raj and DK, and co-star Varun Dhawan during the shoot. She shared, “I had this wonderful team who had faith in me. I don’t think I would’ve been here today if not for them and their belief in me. I’m incredibly grateful to them.”

Calling her team “god sent,” she added, “Sometimes in life, when you go through something really hard, God also sends help. You’ve got to recognise that help and bow down to them to get out of those situations.”

Samantha recounted how her co-workers supported her daily on set. “Every single day, I found someone to hold on to, and thankfully, there were quite a few. Everyone took turns babysitting me (laughs). I’m really lucky in that sense.”

At the teaser launch, Varun Dhawan praised Samantha’s resilience, saying, “Honestly, my preparation was very easy compared to Samantha’s. It’s public knowledge what she was battling, but her work ethic despite her struggles truly inspired me.”

Citadel: Honey Bunny is slated to release on November 7 on Prime Video.
